On every apex corrugated roof, the ridge is the most critical component in determining the lifespan of the roof. So, what is the correct way to install a corrugated ridge?
The first factor to make a corrugated ridge installation successful is choosing the right type of ridge.
Previously, the only options available was a bitumen ridge cap or clear corrugated ridge cap, however, both have major flaws. A corrugated bitumen ridge is a good budget option for smaller roofs, but its basic design means long term the ridge isn’t weatherproof.
Clear plastic corrugated ridges are a step worse than the bitumen ridges as not only is the waterproofing limited, but the PVC material is not UV protected and goes brittle very fast. For this reason, we do not manufacture this option at all anymore.
So, using our years of R&D experience, our Teams re-designed a new superior ridge that offers significantly greater lifespan and waterproofing called the Super Ridge.
1. Safety first – always wear the appropriate PPE required
2. When installing Super Ridge, start by measuring the length of the ridge. Then deduct the depth of the Rock N Lock® Flashing on both sides
3. Use a chop or hack saw, with a blade that’s suitable for metal, to cut the corrugated ridge to length
4. Measure approx. every 250mm down the ridge and mark the fixing holes
5. Using a suitable HSS drill bit, pre-drill 5m fixing holes as the marked points
6. Slot the Super Ridge Foam Gaskets into the gasket slots on both sides of the ridge
7. Lay the ridge in place on the roof
8. Take the end cap and apply Securbond® Sealant around the back face
9. Slot the End Cap into the ridge and hold it in place for a few moments to allow the sealant to stick
10. Using the screws and caps provided, screw the ridge down to secure it in place. It is easiest to fix to work along the ridge from one end to the other.
- Appropriate PPE
- Chop Saw (with aluminium-compatible blade)
- Measuring tape
- Drill
- Marker or pencil
- Saw & lubricant spray (if trimming sheets)
The innovative Super Ridge is compatible with all Clear Amber’s high profile corrugated sheets, which include the:
• Corrapol® Corrugated Plastic
• Corramet® Corrugated Sheets
• Awnapol® & Corrapol® BT Bitumen Roof sheets
The Super Ridge is not compatible with other brands of corrugated sheets due to varying profiles. It also will invalidate estimated lifespans.
We manufacture the Corrapol® Super ridge in a wide range of 6 colours to suit both bitumen roof sheets and corrugated plastic sheeting. For the bitumen sheets, there are black, brown, green and red options. Then for the corrugated clear roofing sheets there are white and mill options.
Naturally, the Super Ridge End Cap comes in matching colours to perfectly complement the ridge.
The budget bitumen ridge has a lower cost upfront, however, only has an estimated lifespan of 5 years compared to the Super Ridge’s estimated lifespan of 20 years. Overall, the Super Ridge is substantially more cost effective being manufactured from durable aluminium.
